Selecting Real Jewelry

    Finding pieces that flatter you

Real jewelry offers you beauty that lasts. It also represents your personal statement of style. There are no firm rules of right or wrong jewelry choices. However, just as you consider your personal features and build when choosing clothing, you might also do so when selecting jewelry.

The most important rule: buy what you like because its beauty will last a lifetime!

    Height & Bone Structure

    Petite (Under 5'4")

Necklaces: Collar-length or longer. "V" shapes and those falling below breast but above waist elongate the figure.

Bracelets: Bangles flatter petite women. Several narrow ones are more flattering than one wide one.

Earrings: Styles that sweep upward pull the viewer's eye up. Geometric shapes work especially well for full-figured petites.

    Average (5'4" - 5'7")

Necklaces: Any length works unless full-figured—in that case, avoid necklaces resting on the breastline.

Bracelets: Wide bracelets are more in proportion than very narrow ones.

Earrings: Choices are unlimited. Feel free to select triangles, squares and ovals.

    Tall (Over 5'7")

Necklaces: Almost any length goes well. Thin tall women may select chokers to de-emphasize height.

Bracelets: Wide range of choices—just avoid too-delicate pieces. Full-figured tall women can wear several thin bracelets together.

Earrings: Long dangling earrings are especially flattering. Avoid tiny buttons which look lost.

    Face Shapes

    Oval

The "perfect" shape. Any necklace works. Round, button, hoop, and triangular earrings all look well.

    Round

The aim is to add length. Long necklaces (28-32") work well. Squares, oblongs, and dangling earrings draw attention down.

    Rectangular

More length than width. A high choker reduces face length. 16-18" necklaces ending in a "U" are flattering.

    Heart-Shaped

Wide at forehead, narrows to chin. Choker necklaces soften the chin angle. Earrings wider at bottom than top work well.

    Hands & Rings

The length of your fingers is the determining factor when purchasing rings.

    • Long fingers: Can handle almost any style. If thin, oval or round settings soften the look; wider bands are more flattering.
    • Short fingers: Settings should remain within the knuckle. Oval or marquise stones elongate the hand. Round solitaires are good for simplicity.

Most importantly, keep comfort in mind! Measure your knuckle and buy what allows your finger to move freely.
